While KANSHA Hair design is massively talented and Asuka is an impressive hair stylist, one whom I will be returning to in due time, what really hit home was the degree of warmth and generosity I received in my time there, a thoroughly genuine affability and goodwill which is rare and all the more precious in this day and age.

Hair Cut + Color by KANSHA Hair Design
I never used to appreciate the quality of a fine hair cut, as growing up my hair was so dry and coarse not even a good hair dresser could tame it. Cut aside, I mainly relied on a combination of hair straightening procedures and bright colors to detract attention from the condition of my hair, which after years of flat ironing and multiple bleaches, was terrible to say the least.
Having matured into adulthood however, I slowly started to appreciate the beauty of my natural hair, and to treasure it the way it was by taking good care of it and enhancing, instead of changing its appearance. KANSHA Hair Design was by far the closest I could get to getting my hair to look exactly the way I’d always envisioned, and more. As I had recently dyed my hair a bright copper tone, I wanted a color completely opposite and yet not too drastic from its original black. It so happened that my senior hair stylist, the beautiful Asuka, was sporting a gorgeous greyish-brown mass of locks, the exact shade I’d always seen on Japanese models and yearned for. I immediately asked for the very same.
Fast foward through an inspiring experience watching Asuka embark on a 2-hour hair cut, something which I had not been expecting. I had not asked for layers, but implicitly felt that my hair was in safe hands. By the end of two hours, my hair had been texturized in 3 layers, and even though there was way less hair on my head, there was definitely a lot more volume. Never had I seen my hair behave itself so well and sit so obediently on my head in a uniquely layered cut. The pictures above genuinely depict how my hair looked when I rolled out of bed that morning for the shoot. I decided against using hair oil or hair wax to style it, because this cut looked best presented in its original state.
